Nordic Hanseatic: the port of Stralsund

The Hotel Kontorhaus Stralsund is located directly on the harbor of the Hanseatic city. In most of the rooms, you can enjoy the view of the yachts, the harbor exit and the bascule bridge on the Querkanal.
The harbor on the Strelasund – a branch of the Baltic Sea – is divided into several sections: While the North, South and Franconian Harbors are used more for commercial purposes, the City Harbor is the tourist center of the city next to the Old Market. It is located on the harbor island, separated from the old town by two canals, and can be reached via a bridge.
A real Stralsund institution are the snack boats on the ferry canal, which can be easily reached on foot from the hotel. Here you can enjoy the proximity to the sea in a culinary way with a delicious fish sandwich and hot fish dishes.

Absolute crowd puller: the Ozeanum directly opposite the hotel

An absolute crowd-puller in Stralsund is the Ozeanum, which is just a two-minute walk from the Hotel Kontorhaus and can be reached via the bascule bridge on the Querkanal. Thousands of animals from the North and Baltic Seas, the Atlantic and the North Atlantic Polar Sea await visitors here in many different tanks.
The largest aquarium is located in the “Open Atlantic” area. There you can observe schools of mackerel, rays, groupers and even a sand tiger shark through a huge panoramic window.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in history: the old town

The Hotel Kontorhaus is just a few minutes’ walk from the historic old town of Stralsund, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002 together with the old town of Wismar. Surrounded by several ponds, the old town is located on an island. This borders directly on the Strelasund, which connects Stralsund with the island of Rügen.
The heart of the historic old town is the Old Market, which was settled by merchants as early as 1200. In the summer months, various restaurants invite you to linger here with cool drinks and hot food.
The town hall is an absolute eye-catcher in the old town. The imposing brick building from the 14th century is adorned with an elaborate decorative façade. With its magnificent windows and rose windows, through the upper part of which you can look directly into the sky, the building is one of the most beautiful examples of northern German brick Gothic architecture.
