Wallensteintage in Stralsund
A historical spectacle
All of Stralsund will be upside down again on the weekend of July 20-23.
This is when the Wallensteintage, one of the largest historical folk festivals in northern Germany, kicks off.
In addition to a parade, market hustle and bustle, jugglers and numerous events, there is a folk festival atmosphere with everything that goes with it: plenty of culinary highlights, local crafts and maritime experiences await guests throughout the city.
There will also be a lot going on on the harbor island.
Anyone who thinks of the Stralsund Wallensteintage will have the sound of cannon fire in their ears,
gunpowder vapor in their nostrils and colorful market hustle and bustle before their eyes.
This year, too, there will be colorful hustle and bustle in the old town of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund.
The Wallensteintage festival stretches from the Alter Markt, the heart of the old town, through the city.
Lansquenets and horsemen make their way through the alleyways and streets.
There is a parade, battle demonstrations, a plague procession and a stage program at one of the largest folk festivals in northern Germany, as the organizers describe it.
From the Hotel Kontorhaus, guests have the best starting position: short distances along the canals into the old town and only a few steps to all the attractions that take place on the waterfront.
The Wallensteintage are the ideal occasion for a short trip to the Hanseatic city.
