“The Nutcracker” comes to the Theater Vorpommern

The most performed ballet in the world

“The Nutcracker” tells the story of little Klara-Marie, who receives a nutcracker as a present from her godfather Drosselmeier on Christmas Eve. In her dream, the nutcracker appears to her as a prince and whisks her away into a fairytale world. In keeping with the Christmas season, the popular play will now be staged on several days at the Theater am Olof-Palme-Platz in Stralsund.

The literary basis of the ballet, which Ralf Dörner is staging as artistic director of the Theater am Olof-Palme-Platz to music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky, is the fairy tale “Nutcracker and Mouse King” by the German writer E. T. A. Hoffmann. The fairytale ballet in two acts was first performed in St. Petersburg in 1892.

The popular ballet is performed in Stralsund on the following days:

  • Wednesday, December 14, 7:30 to 9:20 p.m.
  • Friday, December 16, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 17, 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, December 23, 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 25, 4 to 6 p.m.
