Sundschwimmen: In the Kontorhaus in the front row

2.5 km through the Strelasund

The route through the Strelasund from Altefähr on the island of Rügen to the Stralsund lido is just under 2.5 kilometers long. It is covered during the annual Sundschwimmen, which will be held on July 1 this year – the 58th edition in 2023. The Sundschwimmen is the oldest and most important long-distance swim in Germany and attracts hundreds of swimmers and spectators every year. It is less about sporting success, medals and certificates and more about the fun and enjoyment of sport and socializing. Many people combine the event with their vacation on Rügen or a city trip to Stralsund. All the better, because the route also runs alongside the Kontorhaus, which is located directly on the Sound and the neighboring canals.

Like many other events, the Sundschwimmen is one of the highlights in Stralsund that is always worth a trip to the baroque Hanseatic city on the Baltic Sea. The Wallensteintage will take place on the weekend of July 20-23. Many other large and smaller events are also waiting in the wings.
